hints on cultivation:
from Madagascar and Central to Southern Africa, growing season from middle of march until middle of november in a sunny and warm place, may also grow in a protected place outside during summer. Most of the plant was used raw or cooked as food, the flowers and their stems are also edible and were roasted or boiled. In its natural habitat, however, it is threatened with extinction.Requires well-drained soil and light to full sun. Water extensively in spring and summer and allow to dry out again between waterings. They prefer fresh air and should therefore be overwintered light and dry in a well-ventilated room. If kept perfectly dry, it can also withstand temperatures of -10°C (14°F). In frost-free areas it can also be cultivated outdoors.
