The author of the Hoya guide - Ruurd van Donkelaar (Werkendam) - can look back on years of experience in the field of Hoyas. On numerous trips to the homelands of the Hoyas and their closest relatives, he amassed an extensive collection and great knowledge. Several hundred species of the previously little-known genus were collected and described during this time.
