Agave vilmoriniana

|8-12 cm Ø|Agave vilmoriniana, often referred to as the octopus agave, is a pretty impressive and easy-care species. Its soft, curved leaves give it a unique, almost alien appearance. It originally comes from the dry regions of Mexico and is therefore ideally adapted to hot and dry conditions. In our garden, it is a real eye-catcher in the pot. There it lives undemandingly in permeable soil and tolerates both sunny, dry locations and light frost periods. In contrast to most other agaves, the soft leaves are thornless and therefore safe for children and pets in the garden. In its native country, the leaves are used to make fibers for ropes and textiles. The saponins in the leaves are used like soap for body care, and the ingredients are even said to have healing properties.
