Sinningia reitzii Santa Catarina, southern Brazil

|bis 4 cm Ø|A seldom offered species from southern Brazil that forms a fat tuberous caudex. It blooms from the leaf axils on stems that usually have many flowers. The flowers are red, sometimes changing to magenta (pure magenta flowers, on the other hand, are typical of the very similar looking S. Black Hill). The velvety foliage is dark green with white fishbone patterns along the midrib, the back is dark red to maroon brown. In older plants, this pattern might fade. Depending on the light conditions, part of the red color is lost starting from the outside.Seedlings and young plants are very attractive and show a particularly intense leaf color. Under good conditions, the tubers can even withstand light frost down to -2 ° C. The plants are also suitable for shady locations with less light.
