Tillandsia funckiana Kolumbien, Venezuela, 1000-1700m

Tillandsia funckiana is a wildly spiraling air plant that grows on rocks in its homeland. Up and down, the needle-like leaves that resemble a pine branch move. But they feel much softer and resemble an evergreen caterpillar with a pastel light green color. The strong woody base always stretches to the light.A perfect accent develops in full sun - then the tips turn pale pink to fire red.The flowers are bright orange-red - a very unusual color in Tillandsia! For the pollination hummingbirds are responsible. This species is tough and is therefore particularly suitable for even inexperienced plant owners.John Gilbert Baker names the species in 1889 for the plant collector N. Funck
